Universal and Amblin's JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH has exceeded initial expectations, signaling a promising new chapter for the popular "Jurassic" franchise. During the Fourth of July holiday weekend in North America, the film is projected to earn an impressive $141.2 million over five days, including $85.4 million for the traditional three-day weekend.
This five-day performance ranks as the fifth-best Fourth of July opening ever, while the three-day gross marks the fourth-biggest domestic opening of 2025 to date. This is particularly notable given that the holiday fell on a Friday, a day typically challenging for new releases due to vacation distractions. Despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the enduring appeal of the "Jurassic" brand and the spectacle of live-action dinosaurs continue to draw crowds.
Globally, JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH, the seventh installment in the series, has roared even louder, with an estimated international opening of $171.3 million. This brings the film's worldwide debut to a remarkable $312.5 million, making it the second-best opening in the franchise's history and the second-highest global opening of 2025 so far, trailing only A MINECRAFT MOVIE.
Prior to the holiday, projections for the film's domestic opening were in the $100 to $120 million range, with a global estimate of $260 million. To capitalize on the long weekend, the movie premiered on Wednesday, July 2nd.
Following the previous "Jurassic World" trilogy, directed by Colin Trevorrow, Steven Spielberg, Amblin, and Universal brought in Gareth Edwards (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY) to direct "Rebirth." The screenplay was penned by David Koepp, the original writer of JURASSIC PARK

The film introduces an entirely new cast, featuring prominent actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. The plot centers on an extraction team racing to a research facility on an island previously featured in the original JURASSIC PARK. They encounter a shipwrecked family and discover the island is now home to the most dangerous creatures left behind. The cast also includes Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley serve as producers, with Steven Spielberg and Denis Stewart as executive producers.
While the first three "Jurassic World" films each surpassed $1 billion globally and had higher domestic opening weekends (though these were three-day openings, making direct comparisons complex), "Rebirth" was produced with a lower budget of $180 million before marketing. For reference, JURASSIC WORLD (2015) opened to a franchise-best $208.8 million, followed by JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (2018) with $148 million, and JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION (2022) with $145 million (figures unadjusted for inflation). The original JURASSIC PARK (1993), directed by Spielberg, opened to $47 million domestically, a significant sum at the time.
In other box office news, Brad Pitt's F1: THE MOVIE continues to perform strongly in its second weekend, with an estimated $25 million to $26 million for the three-day period. The racing film, which opened to $57 million domestically, has now crossed the $100 million mark domestically and $200 million globally.
Other films expected to round out the top five domestically include Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s live-action HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, Pixar and Disney’s ELIO, and Sony’s 28 YEARS LATER, Meanwhile, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s M3GAN 2.0 is projected to see a significant drop of up to 68% in its second weekend, potentially landing in seventh place behind MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - THE FINAL RECKONING.
